Every year the Royal Navy hold formal mess dinners to commemorate Admiral Nelson’s 21 October 1805 victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.  Port Solent Yacht Club will be honouring that tradition with our own black tie event at the Marriott Hotel on 31 October 2026.

Over the course of the evening each of the ten tables, led by their “captains”, will join in as our Mess President for the evening tells the story of the battle.   

You might find yourself captained by Spanish Squadron Commander Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros  on the Santisima Trinidad, by Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood on board HMS Royal Sovereign or on the French flagship Bucentaure under Admiral Pierre-Charles Villenueve.

Watch out for incoming fire before we all toast The Immortal Memory of Admiral Nelson with a traditional glass of port at the end of the meal.

England Expects That Every Man Will Do His Duty on what promises to be an enjoyable evening.

Arrival 1900 for 1930 meal start.

Arrival drink:  First drink included in ticket price.  Vouchers at the door.

MENU:

Starters

Chicken liver parfait with shallot marmalade, walnuts and brioche

Melon and Parma ham salad with wild rocket

Seasonal vegetable soup (Vegan, Gluten free)

Main Course

Chicken with red wine gravy and seasonal vegetables

Pan fried fillet of salmon with leeks, peas and pancetta

Roast tomato penne pasta (Vegan, Gluten free)

Dessert

Sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream

Milk chocolate cheesecake

Fresh fruit salad with raspberry sorbet (Vegan, Gluten free)

Tea or Coffee with Mints

A Glass of Port

£60 per person for member's guests
