The hottest weekend of the year, so far, was enjoyed by 11 boats on the Hamble Rally.
At Swanwick Marina were - Old Possum, Vigo, Seahawk, King Hi, Moonshine , Sea Dream, Astrid, Merlin, Moonlight Shadow and North Landing, with Happy Place being berthed at Universal Marina.
Most boats were moored up by mid afternoon on the Friday with Moonshine making a speedy evening dash across from Port Solent to join the BYO Pontoon drinks.
The pontoon drinks evening was attended by all Boats where the crews could enjoy the late evening sunshine, good company and a few Margaritas!
Saturday morning saw another hot day with little wind. 5 tenders set off from Swanwick and tied up to an abandoned mid stream pontoon. This was a perfect spot to indulge in some good humoured, but competitive crabbing, whilst having a chat and trying to keep cool.
Winners of the crabbing competition were Astrid - Biggest Crab. Vigo - Most Spiny Crab. King Hi - Pretty Pink Plastic Crab. Moonshine (overall winner) - Most Crabs Caught.
Saturday Night Dinner was held at the Jolly Sailor Pub - of Howard's Way fame. Some crews walked whilst others arrived by tender. The food and atmosphere was very good and we finished with enough tide left for the tenders to leave by the same way as they arrived.
Astrid left the rally on Sunday morning as they were off to Madeira (flying) whilst most of the remaining crews met up at the Riverside Social Restaurant at Universal Marina for an early Sunday lunch. Even on one of the hottest days of the year the Sunday Roast provided was enjoyed by everyone.
The rest of the day was at everyone’s leisure.
Monday arrived with most boats departing by 12pm.
Chris & Paula, Old Possum, would like to thank everyone for attending and making it very easy to lead the Rally.
