Port Solent Yacht Club Rally To Chichester
“Last Night of the Proms” Review
The rally was held from Friday 11th September to boats departing 14th September. Nine boats assembled at various locations in Chichester Marina (and Birdham Pool) as Chichester have no dedicated visitor pontoon.
Eight boats arrived on Friday. These included Lucca, Astrid, Bright Future, Luna, Pikorua, Aeolus, Moondancer and Legato.
The pontoon party was hosted in a gazebo on the lawn and was decorated with Port Solent Yacht Club flags and bunting. There was plenty of room for people to circulate and chat and we were joined by other club members who had arrived by car for the evening.
The gazebo and bunting you can see in the photo was re-created using Chat GPT because we forgot to take photos on the night!!!
On Saturday two further PSYC boats joined us: Skoolie Too and Mouse 2.
The main event was Saturday night at Chichester Yacht Club.
We were given the “Quarterdeck” room downstairs where the club had provided a delightful dining area which we decorated with Union Jacks, Port Solent bunting, flags and party blowers.
A large screen and projector had been set up to show the live broadcast of the Last Night of the Proms. The early proceeding from the Royal Albert Hall was background to the excellent meal provided. Then at 21.00hrs the fun and games began with the traditional musical numbers accompanied by much flag waving, singing, hooting and party poppers.
On Sunday a big group of us had an enjoyable walk to The Crown and Anchor at Dell Quay – and had a delicious lunch there. The rest of Sunday was free with boats departing on Monday.
